A Doll's Bouquet

Yesterday, the calendar event was make a bouquet. So we made a doll's bouquet! First we had to pick them.

I made the flowers out of tissue paper, toothpicks, and a bit of duct tape. They're not perfect, but they're cute! Each of them are just three circles of paper, with duct tape on the top and bottom.

Everyone got to help pick them.

Don't forget to stop and smell the roses!

A few flowers will brighten any day.

And a bucketful is even better!

We placed the bucket on the table with a white tablecloth. The flowers stood out nicely against the white!

Remember the Easter baskets that we made? The flowers were perfect inside! Which do you like better, the bucket or the basket?

We had a lot of fun both making the flowers and taking pictures with them. If you made a bouquet we would love to see it! Leave a link in the comments, or send us an email at celebratinggirlhood@gmail.com.
Happy flower picking!
Just one more thing...

 a doll's bouquet for you!

Lilac Blooms

Hello! Sorry for the unannounced break. Last week was really busy, and I just decided to take the rest of the week off. But I'm back!
Spring is finally starting to show around here! It rained most of yesterday, so the flowers are really beginning to come out. We have a tall lilac bush in our back yard, and some of them were starting to bloom.

Isn't the tree pretty? Lilacs are one of my favorite flowers. I cut a few and brought them inside.

I added a few glass marbles to a wine glass and filled it with some blooms. I like how it turned out!

This is one of my favorites. :)

We have a few small blue jars, and I used one of those for another cluster.

I put a few strands of fake pearls inside, even though the stem didn't reach the bottom.

I use this little bottle to keep my pearls in, so I thought that a lilac bloom would fit nicely!

They're so pretty. :)

Line 'em up!

And a final overhead shot.
What did you think? Which picture was your favorite? I liked the third and the last ones best. Do you have any flowers blooming around you? What's your favorite? Leave a comment and let us know!
Happy Spring!

Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Did you do anything fun to celebrate? We finally got to open our pull-pinata that we made last week.

We set up our background with crepe paper and ribbons for a festive look!

Each of the girls had ribbons on them, too. Robin had an anklet, Marissa had a bracelet, Sophie had a headband, and Jo had a bracelet as well.

Then it was time to open the pinata!

Sophie sat underneath for a picture before taking her turn pulling.

Marissa helped Jo reach up to pull one!

Not that one...

or any of these!

Last one!

And all the candy spilled!
We had a great time celebrating Cinco de Mayo with our pinata. What kinds of things did you do to celebrate? Leave a comment and let us know. We'd love to hear about it!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Pull-Pinata

Are you ready for Cinco de Mayo? The fifth of May can be filled with so many different crafts and treats, but a pinata is a must-have! This year, we decided to make a pull-pinata, where everyone takes turns pulling ribbons to open it. It's a lot of fun, and much safer than swinging a stick around!

You need:
a toilet paper tube
thin cardboard (like from a cereal box)
curling ribbon
tissue or crepe paper (or both!)
tape
candy

1. Cut a circle of cardboard to fit the end of the toilet paper tube. Cut open a small trapdoor in the circle, making sure to leave one side uncut.

2. Tape the circle onto the tube. Tape one ribbon under the trapdoor. Tape a few more ribbons to a square of tissue or crepe paper, then pull them though. It should look like this:

3. Tape the paper over the circle and thread the trapdoor ribbon through it.

4.Curl the ribbons. Snip the paper into a fringe, and tape around the edge.

5. Continue adding strips of paper until the tube is covered.

6. Fill with candy. Tape another square of paper over the top and tape a ribbon for hanging.

7. Hang up and take turns pulling ribbons!

This is such a fun and easy craft to do. And it's so exciting to see who will open the door and let the candy fall!

May Calendar

Happy May Day! It's beginning to snow here, so it doesn't really feel like spring. But the calendar is full of spring things! Hopefully it will get you into the spring mood, no matter what the weather is like. :)
