Snowflake Pudding

To-do on the calender today is to make a sweet treat. So we made snowflake pudding!

 

It's a really easy treat to make, especially if you have pudding that's already made. But if you don't, pudding is a dessert that's quick to make!
We made ours with coconut milk, based of off the butterscotch pudding recipe from the cooking e-book. A few things were tweaked, but it turned out fine. Experimenting can be a lot of fun in the kitchen!

 

For the snowflakes, we cut plain tortillas into snowflakes with a cookie cutter. Then we fried them in a little butter, sprinkled them with cinnamon sugar, and they were ready!

 

This is a very quick and easy treat to make, and a lot of fun, too. But don't be afraid to mix things around a bit! Cut the tortillas into different shapes, or sprinkle them with different spices. Flavor the pudding in a new way, or throw in some add-ins, like chocolate chips, marshmallows, small candies, or crushed-up cookies. Try new things and have fun!

Doll's Snow Day Part 2

Remember the snow day post? That was from the January calendar, and even though it's February, I never finished! Today's February calendar event is to have an outdoor photoshoot, so I thought that I'd post the rest of the snow day. Although it doesn't have any valentines, it is an outdoor photoshoot!

Doll's Snow Day Part 1

On the calendar for today is have a doll's snow day. And so we did! Even though we already made a snow fort, there is still plenty to do in the snow. After everyone was bundled up, we all went "outside" to play. I manged to take a few snapshots while they had their fun. :)

The snow was just right for snowball making, so Robin made a few.

 

But what's the fun in having snowballs if you can't throw them at anyone?

 

So Robin did what anyone would do. Threw them at her sister!

 

Watch out!

 

But Robin's not the only one who can make snowballs.

The best part of playing outside, or anywhere, is playing with someone.

Snowflake Making

It's snowing! Well, not really. On the calendar for today is make snowflakes. And since I already made paper snowflakes, today I made snowflake clings. These are so much fun, and easy to make!

First, draw or trace a snowflake onto a sheet of waxed paper with white fabric paint. You can also sprinkle a bit of glitter over them while they're still wet to make them sparkle! Then let them dry. This will take a few hours, or overnight.

Gently, gently peel the snowflakes off of the paper. Press them onto your window, and you're done!

You can also trim it if you need to, to fix a corner, separate an arm or two, or just to even things out.

Snow Fort -- Inside!

Today's calendar activity is to build a fort. Since I didn't want to bring my dolls outside, and I couldn't bring the snow in, we made a snow fort inside!

 

I draped a white sheet over a chair, and threw a handful of snowflakes over the top.

 

 

There's even a snowgirl standing in the front! I wrapped a few sheets of white felt over some balls of yarn, then pinned them in place. A few pins for the face and a hat from Jo and we had a snowgirl!

 

Do you like making forts inside or outside? Have you ever combined them? Do you have a favorite fort?

 

Whether you make your forts inside or out, with or without snow, or even with something else completely, we wish you happy fort building!

Paper Snowflakes

Winter is so pretty, with all of the snowflakes in the air. But if you live somewhere where there is no snow, or you simply want to bring some indoors, the paper snowflakes are the way to go! This is one of the easiest ways to make them. Paper and scissors are all you need!

 

1. Cut out a square. The bigger it is, the bigger the snowflake will be!
2. Fold over to the corners. It doesn't have to be a perfect triangle!
3. Fold each corner over, then snip off the top.
4. Cut out different shapes! You can try triangles, squares, circles, squiggly lines, or anything else.


 

Unfold!

 

Repeat until you have as many as you want. You can make a small flurry or a whole blizzard full! Experiment with different cuts. Make small ones and big ones. See how many different designs you can make. No two snowflakes are the same. Can you do the same with yours?
Let it snow!

New Year's Eve Crafts

I hope that you all had a good Christmas! We had a very nice one. But now that one Holiday is over, the next is only a few days away! Are you ready for the New Year? Here are a few crafts to get you in the party mood!

 

Party Blower
1. Cut the paper 1" by 4".
2. Roll up around a pencil and tape together, Slide off of the pencil.
3. Flatten the roll. Tape the end closed.
4. Roll up and blow!

 

Party Hat
1. Cut out half of a circle. You may want to trace something for this. The bigger the circle, the bigger the hat!
2. Twist into a cone shape, trim the ends, and wear!

We also made eyeglasses and confetti. Everything is so easy to make, so you can make plenty for everyone! You can also decorate and add your own touches to all of the crafts. Making it is where the fun begins!

Cloves and Clementines

Clementines and oranges are some of our favorite winter fruits. But they don't always get eaten right away. Filling them with cloves is a great craft to do with the leftovers! It's really easy, and a lot of  fun to do. The fruits add a splash of color to any wall, and they smell great too!

You'll need:
 A few clementines or oranges (You can use other citrus fruits too!)
Cloves (As many as needed)
Ribbon (Or something else to tie it up with)
(Optional) A small pin or nail (Be careful!)

 

Tie the ribbon around the fruit first. This can be in any way that you want, but just wrapping it around is usually easiest.

 

Then fill with cloves! You may need to use the pin or nail to prick the holes first, before you push in the cloves. Be sure to have help!
And be creative in your designs! You can do stripes, or stars, hearts, or whatever else you can think of!

 

Tie the ribbons together and hang up. I added a bell to mine, and you can add anything else that you want!
